There are a few ways in which colour consultants work with colour and a handful of theories that are studied. We provide training in seasonal, tonal and sub-seasonal colour theories so you have the full spectrum of colour analysis. We also teach you how to work with and without colour drapes and how to communicate with your client. Understanding how your client responds to colour and their personal preferences is also an important part of what we teach. We always start with the basics, including knowledge of the colour wheel and how colour is combined, so you get a complete understanding right from the beginning.
Our training courses take place in London, Bristol and Manchester throughout the year. We choose inspirational locations that are suitable for small groups so you feel relaxed and ready to learn with just a handful of people, giving you maximum opportunity to absorb all the information provided.
We will provide you with a comprehensive manual that you can refer to at a later date, along with a goody bag of supportive materials and an option to buy an additional set of drapes.

Who can become a colour consultant
While there are no strict requirements to become a colour consultant, certain qualities and skills are beneficial for success in this profession.
It may seem obvious, but having a genuine interest in colour theory will always be useful in boosting your success as a colour consultant. Don’t get us wrong, a specific passion for colour isn’t always absolutely vital as colour can be just one part of being a successful stylist, but when it comes to colour consultations, having that foundation behind you can be hugely useful in bolstering your confidence and making colour work more enjoyable.
Strong communication skills go hand in hand with this – being able to connect with your clients’ preferences, lifestyle and main goals for your time together will be useful in building a rapport between you and allow you to work at a deeper level with your client. When you’re working within the consultation, it will also be useful if you have a natural keen eye for detail, and enjoy working in an analytical way, as the goal of your session is to collate your client’s individual colour palette that works with their skin tone, eye and hair colour.
Finally, as with anything in the styling industry, tapping into your flair for creativity is hugely beneficial. All of your clients will be different; they won’t always fit into boxes and may have strong emotional attachments to colours that aren’t in their ideal palette.
Having the ability to be flexible in your approach to colour, and to your clients’ unique tastes, will be a great asset when it comes to carrying out your consultations.
